Our Story...
Our story begins over 50 years ago with Nonno Luigi.

After many years of hard work in Australia, Nonno Luigi returned to Italy to pursue his lifelong dream: learning the art of traditional Italian gelato. Upon his arrival, he enrolled in a course at Carpigiani, the world’s most renowned gelato machinery manufacturer. After completing his training, he purchased a vertical batch freezer and brought it with him to Puglia, his family’s homeland.

There, Nonno Luigi opened a small café where he served his gelato to the local community. His gelato quickly became well known, especially his lemon sorbet, which earned a loyal following and remains an inspiration to this day.

Forty years later, Luigi’s son-in-law, Giuseppe, was given the opportunity to move to Australia through a position offered by Carpigiani itself. After several years working in the field, Giuseppe decided to follow in Nonno Luigi’s footsteps and start his own gelato business in Wollongong, the once small town that Luigi had left 50 years earlier.

In 2019, Giuseppe founded Scoop Gelateria Artigianale, a wholesale gelato company created with a clear purpose: to stand apart by always placing quality at the forefront. Ingredients were carefully selected, with some sourced directly from Puglia, ensuring that every flavour could tell the story of Nonno Luigi and his commitment to authenticity.

In 2026, Scoop Gelateria Artigianale will become Cremoso. While the name changes, the values remain the same. Our gelato is made fresh weekly, allowing our partner businesses to serve a product they can truly be proud of. Recipes and technology have evolved since Nonno Luigi’s time, but one principle has never changed: using quality ingredients and never compromising on quality.
